About Handcraft Furnishings

Handcraft Furnishings was founded by Peter Brennan and is based in his home town of Tubbercurry, County Sligo. He has been working as a furniture designer and cabinet maker since 1988.

Handcraft Furnishings design and craft fine furniture, bespoke kitchens and commissioned carpentry pieces from their well equipped workshop based in Tubbercurry.

These pieces range from high quality solid wood in-frame kitchens to finely crafted individual handmade furniture for home or office.

Handcraft Furnishings’ perspective on cabinet making, design and wood finishing, can be described as more of a “global outlook”.

They offer a complete service to support this approach, including consultation, design, manufacture and installation.

Their unique, bespoke furniture is designed and crafted to complement your home, taste and personality.

All items are individually designed and created to suit individual requirements, and can be produced to reflect a modern contemporary, traditional or classic style.

Handcraft’s reputation is based on quality and attention to detail, pride in their work, and an ability to meet their clients needs within their budget.

Handcraft Furnishings are committed and dedicated to providing the best possible service and the highest quality Irish handmade bespoke furniture.

They design specifically for each client's requirements, offering unique and inventive design solutions to ensure your own style and ideas are not compromised.

Each bespoke kitchen they create is special, designed and built for an individual house and an individual customer.

Design

As well as high quality craftsmanship, Handcraft Furnishings are also able to offer an exceptional and personalised computer-aided design service to meet your needs.

Without predetermined kitchen ranges and sizes, any restrictions on choices of materials, colours and finishes, or even a fixed price list, Handcraft Furnishings are able to carefully plan your available space to create the ideal working or living environment.

For potential customers they can prepare a design with a scale drawing of your bespoke kitchen, which may include:-

  • Drawings for individual pieces of furniture
  • Samples to show materials
  • Colours and finishes
  • Examples of details like sinks, granite, marble, choices of woods, handles and appliances

At the design stage there is an initial fee to cover the cost of this custom drawing service, which is deductable from the final production cost when the bespoke kitchen or furniture is complete.

Handcraft can design from new building plans or the accurate internal measurements of your existing kitchen, and often work directly with your architect, building contractor or interior designer.

Please Note: The copyright of all custom designs is retained by Handcraft Furnishings to be produced in-house unless otherwise agreed.

They will go over the plans in detail:-

  • Discuss timber choices
  • Design styles
  • Function and usability
  • Schedules and timelines
  • Costs and budget
  • Talk about the equipment/appliances
  • Discuss any other requirements you may need for your handmade bespoke kitchen

At this stage a financial commitment is required from the client to secure your order by way of deposit.

All commissioned work requires a deposit with balance payable on delivery and fitting.

Craftsmen

Peter Brennan and his team of highly skilled and experienced cabinet makers consider one of the most important details of your handmade, solid wood kitchen is the wood itself.

They take pleasure in utilising selected woods to create your own stylish and practical kitchen that is distinctive through the quality and the decorative patterns in the grain.

These may include:-

  • Oak
  • Pippy Oak
  • Walnut
  • Mahogany
  • Cherry
  • Maple
  • Native Irish Beech
  • Beech
  • Chestnut
  • Ash
  • Elm
  • Burr Elm

For hand-painted kitchens Poplar (Tulipwood) is often used as it receives the painted surface without the wood grain bleeding through, and faithfully holds it’s shape well for years to come.

Each kitchen is crafted from hand-selected woods to create a suite of natural elegance and beauty, tailored to your storage and design requirements with superb hand-finishing, attention to detail and pride in construction.

Handcraft Furnishings are able to skillfully produce many features that you will see in some of the worlds most exclusive kitchens, including:-

  • Curved doors
  • Engraved lettering
  • Inlaid secret magnets
  • Rounded granite details
  • Hand-turned mouldings

The manufacture of each piece incorporates the use of traditional carpentry techniques such as joints made by mortice and tenon or dovetails.

These kitchens are designed individually to meet a client’s specific requirements, considering ergonomics, ease of use and practicality.

We consider the style of:-

  • The kitchen and worktops
  • Paints and finishes
  • Islands and tables
  • Glass units and mirrors
  • Materials and lighting
  • Granite, wood and steel

Handcraft also strive to effortlessly integrate new and existing appliances into an efficient and elegant solution. These might include:-

  • Ovens and ranges
  • Fridges and freezers
  • Dishwasher
  • Microwave
  • Sinks
  • Extractor hoods
  • Power outlets
